A Grays Ferry learning institution sustained smoke and soot damage due to a Saturday fire.
At 5:45 p.m., police and the fire board responded to a report of a blaze at Universal Alcorn Charter School, 1500 S. 32nd St., Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. Upon their arrival, they observed smoke and flames in the rear of the school, with the Fire Department calming the situation.
Tolliver revealed the matter originated in the rear of the school at a Dumpster and traveled up the wall to the roof. She could not comment on the estimated cost to repair the site.
