The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 announced Monday it has increased its reward from $10,000 to $20,000 for providing information that leads to the arrest of a Girard Estate resident’s killers. The bolstered amount will be available through Sunday.

Amber Long and her mother were walking along the 900 block of North Front Street Jan. 19 when two unknown men approached them from behind, with one encountering resistance as he tried to nab the handbag of the 17th-and-Ritner-streets resident. The aggressor shot Long once in the chest and made off with the item before he and an accomplice, who had taken mother Stephanie Long’s purse, fled northbound on Front Street in a black Chevy Impala.

Following transport to Hahnemann Hospital, Long, an architect for a Center City firm, died that night at 11:15.

The City of Philadelphia had already issued a $20,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator.

To report information, call the Fraternal Order of Police tipline at 215-686-8477.
