Having resided in the Federal Detention Center since May 2011, 74-year-old Joseph “Uncle Joe” Ligambi made his way back to his Packer Park abode after two juries could not convict him in a sprawling racketeering matter. In the case of the United States of America versus Joseph Ligambi, the prosecution asked Monday for the dismissal of charges against the individual, with U.S. District Judge Eduardo Robreno signing a release order Tuesday.

Ligambi walked after two trials could not prove gambling, loan-sharking, obstruction of justice, racketeering conspiracy or theft of medical benefits claims against him, with George “Georgie Boy” Borgesi, his 50-year-old nephew and co-defendant, earning his release Friday on racketeering conspiracy charges. The former individual also served time for the 1985 murder of Frank “Frankie Flowers” D’Alfonso and returned to South Philly in ’97 when the court overturned that conviction.
