Vehicular vexation

A woman became involved in a scuffle over her purse in Grays Ferry Saturday, leading to the arrest of an alleged thief.

The complainant stated she recalled leaving her purse in a van after her uncle gave her a ride to Southwest Philly at 4 p.m. Returning to her relative’s residence on the 1300 block of South 29th Street two hours later, she peered inside the vehicle for the holder but found nothing, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said.

Walking to the other side of the ride, she observed an unknown woman supposedly placing the purse into a larger bag a few houses away from her uncle’s home. Confronting the supposed pillager, she regained the possession after brief struggle, though she realized items were missing, Tolliver said.

Authorities responded to the location and arrested 36-year-old Christi Curran, also known as Christi Coleman, of the 1300 block of South 29th Street, and charged her with robbery and theft. Police also questioned the uncle, who stated he parked the van at 5 p.m. and left it unlocked, though he claims he did not give the arrestee permission to enter it.
