Hurt feelings over a taxi cab user’s choice of a driver led to a motorist’s arrest in Point Breeze.

Authorities ventured to 1301 S. Broad St. after responding to a radio call 10:05 a.m. Sunday. Meeting with the 44-year-old complainant, a Freedom Cab Co. employee, they learned he had been driving northbound along South Broad Street when a patron flagged him down at Tasker Street, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. Stopping at a light upon heading to the rider’s destination, he allegedly encountered a disgruntled Liberty Cab worker, who presumably felt the complainant had stolen his customer.

The second motorist removed the top of his coffee cup and threw the contents through the passenger side window, burning the first driver’s right arm, Tolliver said. The offending cab operator then drove away yet turned himself in Monday and was arrested. Authorities charged 45-year-old Bassam Albarouki with simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. The resident of the 1800 block of Tree Street was released on his own recognizance.
