A Whitman-based restaurant owner parted with $400 after an Aug. 30 confrontation inside his establishment.

The 60-year-old proprietor reported that upon entering through the back of Frank’s Restaurant, 2433 S. Columbus Blvd., at approximately 5:10 a.m., he observed two ski mask-clad figures, one behind the counter and the other by the front after they had gained entrance through the unlocked front door. The owner stated the first individual brandished a gun and demanded money from the cash register, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said.

The businessman complied and gave the requester $100 before his accomplice nabbed $300 from a lock box, with the two then using plastic ties to bind the complainant’s arms behind his back. They then placed him on the ground and fled in an unknown direction, with the victim freeing himself shortly after, Tolliver said.

The first offender was described as a black male, 6 foot, 170 pounds, wearing black pants and a similarly colored shirt and ski mask and holding a black gun. His helper was described as a black male, 5-foot-11, 160 pounds and wearing the same sort of apparel.
