Several tips led police to a Newbold resident believed to be responsible for robbing an 81-year-old woman in Passyunk Square last month.

Police arrested Charles Jennings, 34, of the 1500 block of Dickinson Street, Aug. 13, police said.

He allegedly waited inside United Check Cashing, 1123 S. Broad St., at 1 p.m. July 17 as the woman cashed a check, according to police. He then held the door for her as she exited the business and followed her to the 1300 block of South Juniper Street where he grabbed her wallet that was hanging from her neck and fled westbound on Wharton Street.

Jennings was charged with robbery, aggravated assault, theft, receiving stolen property, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, according to court records. His bail was set at $35,000, which was not posted by press time. Jennings pled guilty to a North and South Philly robbery in 1998.
