A local community group presents its sixth-annual effort to promote non-violence.

Unity in the Community, led by West Passyunk’s Anton Moore, will kick off Peace Week July 28 with a prayer at local churches for Trayvon Martin and others lost as a result of gun violence. The effort will continue at 6 p.m. July 29 with a Peace Rally and March from Wharton Square Park, 2300 Wharton St., to Stinger Square, 1400 S. 32nd St., with speeches from state Sen. Anthony Williams, state Rep Jordon Harris and 2nd District Councilman Kenyatta Johnson.

“This is a fragile time in our community,” Moore said. “While we continue in the spirit of our annual celebrations, we must not lose focus on the importance of promoting a peaceful, non-violent and gun free community. The question our community must answer is what do we do now?”

Power 99’s DJ Diamond Kuts and hip-hop artist Lee Mazin will host a free teen party for those ages 13 to 17 from 7 to 10 p.m. July 30 at Dixon House, 1920 S. 20th St., and panelists — such as Okewa Garrett, a Rihanna backup dancer; Jamira Burley, City’s Youth Commission executive director; Christian Crosby, 76ers live events coordinator; and Assistant District Attorney Kevin Harden Jr. — will discuss career options at a peace conference 6 p.m. July 31 at Yesha Ministry, 2301 Snyder Ave. WDAS-FM’s Patty Jackson, a Point Breeze native, will host a college readiness event that will include school-supply giveaways and textbook scholarships 5:30 p.m. Aug. 1 at Wilson Park, 2500 Jackson St.

Led by Sixers Ambassador of Basketball World B. Free, the 2013 Summer Hoops Tour will offer instruction to children 2 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 2 at Vare Rec Center, 2600 Morris St. At 6 p.m. Cleveland Cavalier Dion Waiters, a South-of-South native, will tip the ball for Ball 4 Peace, a friendly game among local players and media personalities.

The sixth annual Unity in the Community Block Party that features free outdoor activities, food, live performances, a fashion show, giveaways and more will be 1 to 8 p.m. Aug. 3 at 20th Street and Snyder Avenue.
