A man was arrested for holding up a Whitman hoagie shop two blocks from home four months ago.

A tip led police to Michael Showers, 40, of the 2700 block of South Randolph Street, who was arrested May 30 for a Feb. 3 robbery at Subway, 330 Oregon Ave., according to a June 13 police press release.

He allegedly entered the eatery at 6:07 p.m., and said, “It’s cold outside” and asked the 27-year-old female employee for some cookies, according to police. However, Showers is believed to have pulled out a gray handgun and said, “Give me the 10s and 20s.” He allegedly fled with $400.

Showers was charged with robbery, theft, receiving stolen property, possession of an instrument of crime, terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and firearm violations, according to court records. He has not posted his $250,000 bail at press time.

Eleven days after the alleged Subway incident, he was arrested for an alleged vehicle theft that occurred at Fairhill Street and Oregon Avenue at 6:28 p.m. He was charged with theft, receiving stolen property and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, according to court records. His bail was set at $5,000 Feb. 15. He posted a percentage of that figure five days later.

Showers has pled guilty to two simple assaults and burglaries, as well as a criminal trespassing, aggravated assault and robbery that date back to 1998, according to court records.
