The alleged shooter who gunned down a West Passyunk man as his young son looked on in a Girard Estate parking lot was taken into custody Sunday.

Jahmir Harris, 23, of the 1600 block of South Ringgold Street, was taken to Police Headquarters for questioning after a witness identified him, according to police. He subsequently was arrested for allegedly killing Louis Porter, 45, of the 1900 block of South Bonsall Street.

Porter parked his vehicle in the parking lot at Walgreens, 2310 W. Oregon Ave., but as he and his 5-year-old son walked to the store at 8:16 p.m. Dec. 23, 2012, Harris allegedly pulled up, stepped out of his auto and rapidly fired 17 shots toward Porter, who tried to back away, police said.

The victim’s son, who was unscathed physically, ran to someone in the parking lot. His father, however, received a wound to his left wrist, two to his left arm and several additional ones to his head, which caused severe brain damage and eventually led to his death a week later at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, according to police.

Harris was charged with murder, conspiracy, firearm violations and possession of an instrument of a crime, according to court records.
