Rise and shine

While wait times could run up to an hour-and-a-half during its busiest hours, patrons are more than willing to linger around for a seat at Green Eggs Café, which reserved top Sunday brunch destination.

Owner Stephen Slaughter expanded his Passyunk Square brand, which opened in December 2009, to Northern Liberties the following year and Center City last year.

“We offer a pretty fun, diverse menu — an exciting menu,” manager Pat Findley said. “Everything’s fresh and really there’s a lot of care that goes into the food when it’s made and prepared.”

The resident of Broad and Reed streets also gave compliments to his servers for their knowledge of the menu that is available all-day, everyday, including 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays.

“They help customers get what they want when they have a lot of different things in front of them and they can’t decide,” he said.

Tempting selections include favorites, such as red velvet pancakes, crème brûlée french toast, chicken and waffles Benedict and the “kitchen sink,” which includes scrambled eggs with cheese, as well as potatoes, peppers, onions and a biscuit topped with pork sausage gravy — all of which are sure to tempt taste buds in one’s initial meal of the day.

“It’s something you can taste the difference in when you try the other brunch places,” Findley said of Green Eggs’ overall product.

Penrose Diner scrambled to second, while Sabrina’s Café woke up in third.
