With approximately 250 student-athletes across nine sports, Ss. Neumann-Goretti High School, 1736 S. 10th St., fosters focus on intense mental and physical preparation. Honor roll distinction for 22 of its 26 All-Catholic selections solidifies the former sort, and readers have backed the latter by voting the East Passyunk Crossing institution the top high school team.
“I attribute our success to the good, strong leadership skills of athletic director Pat DiPilla,” President John Murawski said of his colleague. “The coaches and players, both terrific representatives themselves, come to see themselves as part of a bigger picture, one including aspiring to be the best and the brightest, through his example and the resources he taps into.”
The two have witnessed numerous championship coronations for their Saints and have sent many participants off to excellent colleges and universities as scholarship winners. With plenty of enrollees engaging in more than one discipline, DiPilla is receiving great support for his secondary education philosophy.
“High school is the best, most formative years of your life,” the administrator said. “So, it’s a waste if you’re not involved in something, and athletics is a great character builder. Because of that, we feel honored our student-athletes are being recognized.”
The Prep Charter High School Huskies howled in second place, and the South Philadelphia High School Rams battered away in third.
