A Dickinson Narrows and a West Philly man are believed to have attempted to steal metal from a Point Breeze land parcel.

Dennis Barnett, 62, of West Philly, was seen inside a fenced-off lot on the 2400 block of Washington Avenue fetching long metal pieces and sliding them through a hole in the fence to Michael Pepe, 46, of the 400 block of Titan Street, who was outside of the fence placing the items in his blue Chevy S-10 pickup truck at 1:40 p.m. Saturday, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said.

Witnesses told officers on patrol that the men were stealing the metal, Tolliver said. Police contacted the 53-year-old lot owner who said there was not a hole in his fence as of that morning and he did not give anyone permission to be on his property.

The pair was arrested at the scene and charged with burglary, conspiracy, criminal mischief, criminal trespassing, theft and receiving stolen property.
