A man was jumped and robbed after refusing to give a stranger a cigarette in the West Passyunk neighborhood Saturday.

A 51-year-old man was walking on the 2200 block of Winton Street with his 39-year-old girlfriend around 10:26 p.m. May 26 when a man, who was walking with two others, asked for a cigarette, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said.

After the man declined to give him one, the offender grabbed the girlfriend while one of the other offenders knocked him to the ground and held him in a chokehold while the third man fished through his pockets taking $320 and a pack of cigarettes, Tolliver said. The third man also bent his fingers on the victim’s right hand backwards.

The trio fled east on Winton.

The man walked to Methodist Hospital where he was treated for sprained fingers.

The suspects were described as black. The first was 5-foot-5, in his early 20s, thin and had braided hair. The second was 6-foot-4, with a dark complexion and was wearing a black hoody while the third was 6 foot and wearing a green hoody with a skull on it.
