The deadline for sports notices is noon Monday. Submissions should be typed or neatly printed with both a contact number for verification and one for publication. Names should be spelled properly and include both first and last names. Phoned-in items will be rejected.


ACL CLINIC

ESSAY CONTEST WINNER

South Philadelphia resident Mason Thomas, a fifth-grader at Sacred Heart, won the Briggs and Stratton Diamonds in the Rough essay contest and received $5,000 and a lawn mower for the Marian Anderson Recreation Center, 18th and Fitzwater streets, where he plays baseball with the Anderson Monarchs. Rec leader Steve Bandura said the money will be used to repair the team bus.


FIRST TEE PHILADELPHIA

GOLF CAMP

The Philadelphia Recreation Department conducts its annual golf program at Cobbs Creek Golf Club, 72nd Street and Lansdowne Avenue. This program features instruction from members of the Philadelphia section of the Professional Golfers Association the first three days of the week along with two days at a local public golf course. The recreation department will provide all necessary equipment. The camp at Cobbs Creek golf course will be held 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. the week of Aug. 6. Cost is $50. The Next Level Girls 14-and-under Amateur Athletic Union basketball team won the Fencor Summer Classic championship with a 4-0 record. The squad is undefeated in its last three tournaments.

SEYAA OUTDOOR SOCCER

Registrations are under way for the SEYAA outdoor fall soccer program, which begins Sept. 8. Age divisions are: 4 to 6; 7 to 8; 9 to 10; 11 to 13; and 14 to 16. Teams are coed and games will be played at SEYAA, Seventh and Bigler streets. The program runs through November.
