ALL-CITY CLASSIC

The Rasual Butler All-City Basketball Classic starts 6 p.m. June 6 at Ben Franklin High School, Broad and Green streets, with the freshman game. The event will feature triple-header action involving the area’s top underclassmen, including players from Prep Charter, Neumann-Goretti and Southern. Tickets are $8 at the door. CYO NEWS

The Region 6 Catholic Youth Organization All-Star team defeated Northeast-based Region 1, 12-6, May 15. The Region 6 roster consisted of players from schools in South Philadelphia.


DEL MASTRO UPDATE

South Philadelphian/Roman Catholic grad Carmen Del Mastro, of Eighth and Catharine streets, helped the Temple University baseball team qualify for the Atlantic 10 Tournament for the first time since 2002. The junior second baseman and his Owls were eliminated, 10-7, in the May 23 contest at Campbell’s Field by Duquesne. The infielder had two hits, a run scored and an RBI in the loss.

For the season, Del Mastro started 46 of 47 games and hit .266 with 45 hits and 18 RBIs.


HOOPSTARS GIRLS BASKETBALL CAMP

The Philadelphia Hoopstars is holding girls’ basketball camps in June with ball-handling, shooting and scrimmages.

The beginner camp for ages 6 to 10 is 9 a.m. to noon June 16 to 20. Cost is $65 per child and includes a jersey, shorts, knee pads and instruction.

The intermediate camp is a two-week session from noon to 3:30 p.m. June 16 to 20 and 23 to 27. Cost is $85 per child.

HURRICANES FOOTBALL

The South Philly Hurricanes youth football program, a Pop Warner affiliate, is looking for football/cheerleading coaches for the upcoming season. No experience is necessary. PALUMBO SOCCER CLUB

The Palumbo Soccer Club holds its fall 2008 travel-team tryouts for boys and girls May 31 at Starr Garden Rec Center, Sixth and Lombard streets. Ages 8 to 10 must arrive by 9 a.m., while ages 11 to 13 start at 10:30 a,m. All players must bring a soccer ball and wear cleats and shinguards.
