Chilly reception

Normally when the puck is dropped at a hockey game, it’s the start of things to come not the showstopper. Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, third from right, changed all that when she visited the Wachovia Center Oct. 11 to kickoff the Flyers-Rangers action. The crowd may have had mixed emotions during her appearance, but soon chilled out as the players hit the ice. Joining Palin are daughters Piper, second from right, and Willow; Cathy O’Connell, second from left, winner of the Flyers’ Ultimate Hockey Mom contest; Flyers captain Mike Richards; and New York Ranger Scott Gomez. The Rangers took the game, 4-3.
