A Southwest man was shot and killed on March 11 after a call was made to police about a person with a gun at 10:07 p.m. on the 8800 block of Ditman Street in the Northeast.

Robert Price, 36, of the 5700 block of Hazel Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene in an apartment at 10:45 p.m., said Officer Tanya Little of the Police Public Affairs Unit. A 43-year-old woman, who was shot in the neck, was transported to Frankford-Torresdale Hospital in critical condition. There are no suspects or motives known.

Failed attempt

A man attempted a robbery at a hotel’s front desk and was captured after discarding the scarf and jacket he wore during the March 12 heist.

Marcel Jervoy, 23, of the entered the Residence Inn, 4630 Island Ave., at 9:33 p.m. and allegedly told the desk clerk, "give me all the money in the drawer," according to a report. When the clerk informed him that she could not open the drawer, the suspect said, "Hurry up. You’re taking too long."

The clerk ran to the back when she feared he had a gun in his pocket. Then Jervoy fled the hotel, but stood at the front of the building before fleeing the scene. The blue scarf and tan hooded jacket that he was wearing were thrown out behind The Loft Hotel, 4301 Island Ave., where police detained Jervoy when he fit a description they received. He was later identified by the clerk and a guard at the hotel and charged with robbery and related offences.

Police escape

A man ran into an elderly woman’s home and told her, "I am running from the cops" Saturday.

Around 5 p.m. on the 4900 block of Florence Avenue, Anthony London, 23, of the 800 block of South Saint Bernard Street, allegedly broke a window of an 85-year-old woman’s home and entered, according to a report. The lady flagged down a police car and told them a man was in her house trying to escape. Police arrested the suspect who had just broke into another home on the same block. Police charged the offender for both burglaries and related offences.

Man continues string of robberies

A man found guilty of six prior robberies ranging from 1996-2005 jumped the counter and took the money at an area supermarket, but was restrained by employees before he could escape March 12.

Edward Ryan, 34, of the 1600 block of South Lindenwood Street, allegedly jumped over the counter at 5 Star Supermarket, 1800 S. 60th St., taking $336 from the register around 8:50 a.m. and fled, according to a report. The owner and an employee attempted to restrain Ryan, but he allegedly bit and punched them. Police saw the fight as they passed the mini market and arrested Ryan. Employees were taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania to be treated.

Left in the cold

A man fired a shot in the air before he and another man allegedly robbed a male of his coat and wallet March 11.

Walking along the 5300 block of Pentridge Street around 2:40 p.m., a 34-year-old male was approached by two offenders. The first fired a shot in the air while the other pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at the man and instructed him to get on the ground, according to a report. Taking his coat, his wallet and $10, the duo fled on foot south on 54th Street. The jacket was later found at 57th Street and Florence Avenue.

The men were described as black, 5-foot-8 and wearing black hoodies. The first wore dark pants while the second wore a black cap and tan pants.

Rude awakening

A 22-year-old female was awakened when an unknown male entered her bedroom overnight Saturday. The woman screamed and the man grabbed her purse, which contained ID, credit cards and a cellphone, before fleeing the 6300 block of Regent Street at 2:35 a.m. When she arrived downstairs, she also noticed her television and computer were missing. The perpetrator entered through her kitchen window.

The man was described as black with a medium complexion, 18 to 20, 5-foot-7 and wearing black long sleeve shirt.

Money troubles

A 53-year-old male had a fight with a woman about her car when she allegedly asked two men to go get her money back from the man she argued with.

Upon arriving on the 5300 block of Willow Avenue, the first offender allegedly held a black handgun to the man’s chest around 5:29 p.m. March 11 and said, "Man I don’t like you anyway. I will blow [your] chest off," according to a report. Handing the gun to his accomplice, he allegedly punched the man in the mouth, which began to bleed. The offenders fled in a black BMW in an unknown direction.

The first suspect was described as a black male, 26 to 30, 195 pounds, with a short beard and short hair. He was wearing black sunglasses and a black leather jacket. The second offender was a black male, bald, 6-foot-3, 220 pounds, wearing a blue jumpsuit.

Grocery hold up

A man reported that he had a gun and demanded money at a local grocery store Tuesday.

The suspect approached register eight 7:15 a.m. at ShopRite, 2946 Island Ave., and demanded money from the 43-year-old female cashier informing her that he had a gun. Although she did not see the weapon, she complied and gave the offender about $170. He walked out of the store in an unknown direction.

The suspect was described as black, 30 years old, 5-foot-2 to 5-foot-5, wearing a gray hoody and tan pants.
