The 182nd District covers parts of Center City and South Philly including sections of Bella Vista, Grays Ferry, Hawthorne, Passyunk Square and South of South. Each state representative is elected to a two-year term. Two Democrats from the 8th Ward in Center City will vie for the seat.
Babette Josephs, 69, was married to the late Herbert Newberg. The couple has two children and six grandchildren. Josephs, a former School District of Philadelphia English teacher, attended Queens College and Rutgers–Camden School of Law. She has held her position in Harrisburg since 1984.

Gregg Kravitz, the 8th Ward committeeman, was stock trader in Manhattan. He has worked for campaigns in Mobile, Ala. as well as Philadelphia including City Council, Pennsylvania senate, district attorney and controller.
