Robert C. Donatucci and Michael D. Bruno, of the West Passyunk neighborhood, candidates for the 185th District, are running unopposed on Tuesday, but will be matched up against each other for the General Election. The district spans from South Philly into Delaware County including local neighborhoods such as Girard Estate, Marconi Plaza, Packer Park and part of the Navy Yard. Each state representative is elected to a two-year term.

Donatucci, 58, has been a state representative since 1980. The ’70 Bishop Neumann and ’74 Temple alum is married to Maria and they have two children. He serves on the ethics and liquor control committees.

Bruno will challenge Donatucci in November. Raised by Christine and Dominic along with his three siblings, Bruno grew up at Jackson and Colorado streets and still resides in the neighborhood.

“In that time, the same handful of elected officials has held office with no term limits for most of their adult lives. They have not been accountable to anyone and repeatedly have had little, if any, opposition. … This political domination is not productive in a free society. Political opportunity should be available to all — not just a handful of people politically connected.”

The alum of Stephen Girard School, 1800 Snyder Ave., Edwin H. Vare Middle School, 2100 S. 24th St., and Southern has had a variety of jobs including owning a luncheonette, working in a bakery and installing carpets. He is a block captain and participates in St. Monica’s bowling league.

If elected, Bruno will only stay in office for one term, but he ensures his door will be open daily to meet with residents

“Together, we will determine how my office can most effectively interact with the legislature to best serve the needs of our local residents,” Bruno said.
