The Philadelphia Water Department held the groundbreaking ceremony Monday to celebrate the city’s first ever solar energy installation. The Southeast Water Pollution Control Plant, 25 Pattison Ave., which has a 250 kilowatt system and covers more than an acre of land, goes toward meeting the Greenworks Philadelphia goal of generating 20 percent of the city’s energy from alternative sources by 2015.
