Sunday marked the beatification of Pope John Paul II. Parishioners of Annunciation BVM Church, 1511 S. 10th St., and the family of the late Rev. Ronald M. Jakows gathered in the St. Pio Rosary Garden to unveil this statue of one of the Catholic Church’s most adored pontiffs. A sign bearing a dedication to Jakows, a fellow Pole who oversaw the acquisition of the piece just before his Feb. 2 death, rests to the left.
