ALL-PUBLIC HONORS

This season bore varied results for the area’s Public League teams, but several individuals had impressive years. Girard Academic Music Program senior pitcher Dom Raia was co-MVP of Division A and made the First-Team squad. Junior infielder Tyler Criniti made the second team. In Division B, Prep Charter junior infielder Michael Borelli shared MVP honors and made the First-Team, along with senior catcher Michael Sandefur and senior infielder Joe Lind. Teammate Sal Convento, a junior infielder, made the Second-Team, as did Bok Tech junior catcher Derek Gregg. In Division C, Southern junior pitcher Stephen King landed on the First-Team. The second team features Southern junior infielder Marques DeLeon and Furness senior infielder Charles Hayden. 

BUTLER ALL-CITY CLASSIC

The ninth annual Rasual Butler All-City Classic, named in honor of the Point Breeze native and Chicago Bulls swingman occurs 5 p.m. June 9 at Ben Franklin High School, 550 N. Broad St. The game features the top freshmen, sophomore and junior basketball players, including many with local ties. Tickets are $10. E-mail Charles Monroe, cmonroe1@hotmail.com.

NEUMANN-GORETTI YOUTH FOOTBALL CAMP

Neumann-Goretti is hosting its first annual youth football camp for sixth through eighth graders 9 a.m. to noon June 27 to 30 at 26th and Moore streets. This non-contact camp will introduce participants to offense, defense and special teams. Registration ends June 1. There is a $25 registration fee. Contact C.J. Szydlik, 215-858-9112.

REGALBUTO SHINES

Reno Regalbuto, who picked up the win for Neumann-Goretti in the 2009 Class AAA City Title Game, completed his first year on the Gloucester County College Roadrunners one game short of reaching the NJCAA Division III World Series. The lefthander’s team dropped an 8-4 game to Eastfield College of Mesquite, TX, in Tyler, TX, May 27, finishing 31-18.

SEYAA SOCCER

Fall outdoor soccer registrations are now being accepted for the league which begins Sept. 10. Age divisions are: 4 to 6; 7 to 8; 9 to 10; 11 to 13; and 14 to 17. Register 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays or noon to 2 p.m. Saturdays at SEYAA, Seventh and Bigler streets. Previous participants will receive a registration packet in the mail. SOFTBALL RECAP

The Prep Charter softball team finished its fantastic season May 24, dropping a 6-2 decision  to Masterman in the Public League semifinals. The setback at LaSalle University was only the unit’s second loss against 14 wins.
