Squatter arrested

A homeless man allegedly physically attacked a male after verbally bashing the victim’s family in the Point Breeze/Newbold area.


Muhammad Jamal Muhammad Jamal aka Michael Moore, 32, allegedly made offensive remarks to the 49-year-old’s wife and child, which resulted in an argument between the two men at 1:45 p.m. Saturday on the 1400 block of South Colorado Street where Muhammad Jamal is believed to be staying in an abandoned home, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. 


When the 49-year-old turned around to return to his home, Muhammad Jamal, a homeless man whose last known address is on the 1200 block of South 18th Street, allegedly pulled him down causing in him to fall down the steps backwards and hit his head on the cement. Although he was unconscious, Muhammad Jamal allegedly punched and kicked him and even took his wallet and cell phone at one point. When a passerby called the police, Muhammad Jamal is believed to have placed his belongings back down and returned to the building where he was believed to be squatting. 


Upon police arrival, Muhammad Jamal was arrested and charged with robbery, simple assault, harassment, recklessly endangering another person, theft and receiving stolen property. 


The victim was transported to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital for the treatment of head and facial injuries.
