Police are seeking a man charged with four bank robberies Friday and is believed to be responsible for a fifth in Pennsport.

John Digman aka John McCue, 48, was released from prison July 1 after serving a 10-year sentence for three 2002 bank robberies, according to court records. Less than a month later, he is believed to be responsible for six bank robberies and attempted bank robberies.

Digman allegedly entered Prudential Savings Bank, 238 Moore St., at 12:45 p.m. Friday, handed the teller a threatening demand note and fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash, FBI spokesman J.J. Klaver said.

He was charged with attempting to rob a North Philly Bank of America July 11 while he was charged with robbing two Center City PNC Bank branches July 11 and 18, respectively; and North Philly’s Beneficial Bank July 20, according to the indictment. In each incident, he allegedly threatened to use a gun although no firearm was ever seen. He is also believed to be responsible for an attempted robbery at a Center City Bank of America July 19.

Digman’s last known address is on the 3500 block of Frankford Avenue — not far from the alleged North Philly robberies, Klaver said. He is also known to frequent South Philly and Kensington.

An employee  at the halfway house where Digman resided prior to his release identified him July 14 after seeing bank surveillance video, according to the indictment.

The next day authorities interviewed his mother who said the photos from the first PNC incident “strongly resembled her son,” according to the indictment. She had not heard from him since his release but believed “he may be engaged in illegal activity.” She reached out to authorities July 18 after declining to give Digman money he requested for fear “that without income, he would likely commit another robbery.”

Digman is described as a white, 5-foot-10, thin, with arm tattoos including the word “Sherry” on his right forearm.
