A former West Passyunk resident, who was believed to be homeless, pled guilty to raping a women in a local coffee shop after robbing it.

""Christopher Reeves, 32, formerly of the 1900 block of South 23rd Street, will be sentenced 9 a.m. Jan. 20 for rape, robbery and two counts of forcible compulsion for which he pled guilty to Oct. 12, according to court records.

The District Attorney’s Office is seeking the maximum sentence of 40 to 80 years in prison, Assistant District Attorney Michael Stackow said Tuesday.

Reeves walked inside Bean Exchange Coffee House, 650 Bainbridge St., at about 6 a.m. March 31 and asked a 29-year-old employee for money, according to police. She gave him a few bucks, but when he returned about 30 minutes later, he robbed the shop of $173 and sexually assaulted her in the eatery’s bathroom.

He was arrested three days later in Chester while looking to get into a homeless shelter, Stackow said.

“That was really what led to his relative quick arrest,” he said crediting the Special Victims Unit’s and 3rd District’s work. “I think that’s the untold aspect.”

He was held on bail of $150,000, which was doubled April 21.

“Essentially I made that motion because Mr. Reeves had actually failed to appear for court one week prior to this incident,” Stackow said of the March 24 hearing.

He pled guilty to Dec. 28, 2010 theft and receiving stolen property incident that also occurred within the 3rd District Feb. 24, and will be sentenced for that crime Dec. 12, according to court records.
