A conversation with an unknown man turned into an attempted theft in West Passyunk Friday.
While a 24-year-old woman was walking westbound on the 1800 block of West Passyunk Avenue at 2:13 a.m., an unknown man started to converse with her, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. A few minutes into the interaction he tried to steal her purse, but she screamed and grasped her bag. Two other men who heard the commotion ran toward her and the offender fled south on 18th Street without her belongings.
The suspect was described as black with a medium complexion, age 20 to 25, 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9 and wearing a gray sweatshirt and blue hat.
