Three women allegedly beat and took another’s purse Monday, but were arrested shortly after.

A 20-year-old woman was walking along the 2200 block of South Seventh Street at 1:30 p.m. when Candace McCarthy allegedly started to hit her all over her body, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. She fell to the ground when Megan and Michelle Pellegrino are believed to have joined in by punching and kicking her. McCarthy supposedly kicked her in the head about five times while the other two allegedly encouraged her. The victim climbed to her feet when the siblings are believed to have yelled for McCarthy to take her bag, which she allegedly did after smacking her in the face.

The woman, who suffered multiple cuts and bruises to her face hands and back, walked home before calling police, Tolliver said. Her clothing also was ripped from being dragged across the ground, but she did not seek immediate medical attention. It was unclear if she knew her attackers.

Officers arrested McCarthy on the 2100 block of South Fifth Street and picked up the siblings on the 600 block of Jackson Street around 2 p.m., Tolliver said. The trio was arrested and charged with criminal conspiracy, aggravated assault, robbery, theft, receiving stolen property, terroristic threats, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.
